How AudioViz uses, shares, keeps and deletes your information.
AudioViz Privacy Policy
The short version
- We use your information only to describe your videos and run your account.
- We never sell your information and we show no advertising.
- The companies that help us run AudioViz may not use your videos, sound or descriptions to train their AI.
- An uploaded video file is deleted 30 days after you upload it. We email you the day before.
- When you ask about a video, your question and its answer are kept in your History, and you can delete them.
- You can delete a video, or your whole account and everything in it, at any time from the app.
AudioViz Privacy Policy
What we collect
Your account. Your email address and your sign-in details. Your password is handled by our sign-in service; we never see it.
Your settings. Your language, voice, speech speed, description and accessibility choices.
Videos you add.
- For a YouTube link: its address, title and length.
- For a video you upload: the file, its sound track, a written transcript of its speech, and copies made to describe and play it.
What AudioViz makes for you. The descriptions, the narration, captions and transcripts.
How you use AudioViz. What you watched and where you stopped, so you can continue later (you can pause this history), the character names you confirm or change, and how many described hours you have used.
Organizations. If you use a work account, the name of your organization and your role in it.
Questions you ask about a video. See "When you ask about a video" below.
Payments. Paddle, our seller of record, takes your payment and card details. We never receive your card number. We receive your plan, its status and its dates.
Error reports. When something goes wrong, the app sends an error report: the error, the screen, your browser or device type, and your account's id. Some sessions also send a short screen recording in which every text, input, picture and video is hidden and no sound is recorded. If you send us feedback through the app, we receive your words and, if you give it, your email address.
Messages you send us. Your email and what you write.

When you ask about a video
Ask about this video lets you pause and ask a question out loud. Here is what happens to what you say.
- Your microphone. It is used while you are asking. If you turn on starting by voice in Settings, your browser also listens for your assistant's name while you watch: on your device when your browser can, otherwise through your browser's own speech service.
- What we keep. Your question as text, the answer and its sound, and the moment of the video you asked about. These are kept in your History.
- Your voice. A recording of your question is kept with it while "Save my voice questions" is on. It is on until you turn it off. When you turn it off, you can delete the recordings you already have.
- When History is paused. Nothing is saved, though the question still counts.
- What we count. How many questions you ask each month, for your plan. Questions about your own account are not counted.
- Deleting. You can delete a question at any time. Deleting a question also deletes its recording and its answer's sound. Deleting a video or your account deletes its questions.
To answer, your question and the part of the video it is about are sent to the AI and voice services listed in "Who we share it with".

How we use it
- To describe and narrate your videos, play them and keep your place.
- To answer the questions you ask about a video, and keep them in your History.
- To run your account, your plan and your described hours.
- To send you account emails, such as the reminder the day before an uploaded file is deleted.
- To find and fix errors, and to keep AudioViz secure and stop misuse.
- To answer you when you contact us.
- To meet our legal duties, and to enforce our Terms of Use, for example when what AudioViz makes is used commercially.
We use it for nothing else. We do not build advertising profiles and we do not track you on other websites. Because we do not track you across websites, we do not respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals differently.

Who we share it with
Only with the service providers AudioViz needs, and only what each one needs:
- Hosting, database and sign-in.
- Cloud storage for uploaded videos.
- AI services that watch a video and write its description.
- AI services that turn your spoken question into text, understand it and answer it.
- A speech-to-text service that writes the transcript of a video's speech.
- Voice services that speak the descriptions and the answers to your questions.
- Paddle, our seller of record, and a subscription-management service, for payments.
- An error-reporting service.
- An email service.
- Public film and television databases, to which we send only a title, never anything about you, to find character names.
Each provider uses what we send only to run its service, under its own terms. We have switched off every provider's option to train AI on what we send. Some providers are outside your country; your information may be processed in the United States and wherever they operate. When information leaves the European Union, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we rely on the safeguards the law allows, such as the European Commission's standard contract clauses in our providers' agreements.
YouTube videos play in YouTube's own player, under Google's privacy policy.
YouTube. AudioViz uses YouTube API Services to find YouTube videos and playlists, read their title and length, and play them in YouTube's own player. When you play a YouTube video, Google may collect information about that playback under the Google Privacy Policy: google.com/policies/privacy. AudioViz does not sign in to your YouTube or Google account and does not read your YouTube data.
We may also disclose information when the law requires it, or to protect people from harm.
Your organization. If you use a work account, your organization's owner and admins can see your name, email address and role, how much described time you used this month, and the titles of the videos you described with that account. They see nothing from before you joined. You are told this before you join. Your organization also chooses whether its owner and admins can read the questions you ask about videos with that account, and their answers, including ones asked before that choice was made. If the choice changes, you are told before your next question. Either way, they see how many questions you asked this month.
Public films and public YouTube videos. When AudioViz describes a film it recognises as a public release, or a public YouTube video, the description and its narration may be reused for other listeners of the same video. What is reused holds no information about you or your account. For an upload, you can stop this at any time by saying it is your own video.
Character names. The names you give characters stay in your account, with one exception: when at least 25 different listeners say a name from the public film databases was wrong and give the same new name, AudioViz uses that name for everyone watching that show. Nobody can see which listeners agreed. A name you choose only because you prefer it is never counted or shared. Offensive names are never shared, and if fewer than 25 listeners still agree, the shared name is removed. We also count, without any name or account, how often names from each source are confirmed or corrected, to measure their accuracy.

How long we keep it
- An uploaded video file: 30 days after you upload it. We email you the day before. The description, the transcript and your place in the video stay until you delete the video.
- Questions you ask about a video: until you delete them, the video or your account. Voice recordings: until you delete them, or turn off "Save my voice questions" and choose to delete them.
- Everything else in your account: until you delete it, or delete your account. If an account is suspended for breaking our Terms of Use, we keep its records until the matter is settled.
- Error reports: for up to 90 days, then deleted.
- Payment records: Paddle keeps them as tax law requires.
AudioViz Privacy Policy
Deleting and your other choices
- Delete a video: from the video's menu. Its file, description, narration and transcript are deleted.
- Delete your account: from Settings. Everything in your account is deleted, including its files and the copies our AI video service holds. The only thing that remains is a public film's or public YouTube video's shared description, which holds no information about you. Our other providers delete their temporary processing copies under their own retention rules.
- A work account belongs to its organization: deleting it closes it, and its history stays with the organization. An organization's owner must hand the organization to an admin, or close it, before deleting their own account.
- Delete a question: from the Questions tab in History, one at a time or all the questions a filter shows.
- Pause your watch history: from Settings. While it is paused, no question is saved either.
- See, correct or get a copy of your information: email [email protected]. We answer within 30 days.
If you are in the European Union, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you also have the right to object to or restrict how we use your information, to move it to another service, and to complain to your data protection authority. We use your information because we need it to provide the service you asked for, and, for error reports and security, because we have a legitimate interest in keeping AudioViz working and safe.
If you are in California, you have the right to know what we collect and share, as this page describes. We do not sell or share your information for advertising.

AudioViz is not for children under 13. People aged 13 to 17 may use it only with a parent's or guardian's permission, and only adults can pay. If we learn that a child under 13 has an account, we delete it.
AudioViz Privacy Policy
Security
We protect your information with encryption in transit, access rules that keep every account's data apart, and the security of our providers. If a breach puts your personal information at risk, we will tell you, and the authorities where the law requires, as quickly as possible and within 30 days.
